2012 SAG Awards: My Best Dressed List

Last night from 6-8pm my eyes were glued to the television as stars strutted their stuff down the red carpet at the 2012 SAG awards.  Some stars looked stunning while others missed the mark in get ups that I couldn’t be paid to wear in public.

Instead of focusing on the fashion fails, I want to share my favorite looks of the night!

Dianna Agron in Carolina Herrera

Jayma Mays in Reem Acra

Kyra Sedgwick in Emilio Pucci

Giuliana Rancic in Basil Soda

Viola Davis in Marchesa

Michelle Williams in Valentino

Gorgeous gowns and stunning women!! Oh, how I love gushing over the beauty of awards season fashion!

Happy Monday! Hope you have a fabulous and chic evening 🙂

Snapshots from the weekend 1/29

{Homemade Cinnamon Raisin Swirl bread}

{addictive ginger chews from trader joe’s}

{currently reading The Hunger Games}

{a little impulse shopping}

{a refreshing salad to end the weekend}

Another great weekend that went by way too fast! Saturday consisted of a little apartment shopping, a great total body strength workout, and a delicious hummus & grape leaves platter at an amazing Middle Eastern Restaurant.

Today was a relaxing day of baking (the most delicious cinnamon raisin swirl bread), reading, and a quick & sweaty spin class. I finished off the night with a deliciously refreshing salad enjoyed while watching E’s coverage of the red carpet at the SAG awards!

139 minutes lost

Last night I watched the first movie in my challenge to watch and review all 9 films nominated for best motion picture at the 2012 Oscars.

For movie #1 I chose (it was the only one left at Redbox…) The Tree of Life

All I have to say is Snooze-fest 2012. Wow. This movie was hard to stay awake during follow.

The first 50 minutes has about 36 seconds of dialogue and the rest contains various clips of space, the earth, water, and nature combined with excessively dramatic music but you rarely see an actual character in the movie. At one point (maybe minute 30 or 40) some dinosaurs pop up. Yes you read that right – DINOSAURS. At this point, the only thought in my head was “WTF?!”.

Finally after about an hour of this confusing abstract look at the earth and nature and what not, some real actors/characters show up – thank goodness. The final hour and 20 minutes showed a family of three boys growing up in the 1950s with intermittent clips of nature (you know, because it would be too simple to have a straight forward plot line)

Call me ignorant or closed minded, but I need a plot line and some dialogue if I’m going to sit down and watch a movie for over two hours. I’m not an unintelligent person and I do appreciate a film that makes the viewer think critically and figure some parts out on their own, however this movie was so confusing random all-over-the-place weird abstract for my taste.

Even after reading the plot summary on Imdb, I was still left feeling completely dumb-founded as to what I had just done with the last 139 minutes of my life. If watching this movie hadn’t been part of a bigger goal, I definitely would not have even made it half way through the movie and further more I would consider those 139 minutes a complete waste of 2 hours in my life. However, I am glad I can check it off my list (only 8 more to go!)

So, if you’re thinking of checking this film out….please don’t waste your time. You can do so many other productive things with 2 hours of your life. Even watching two hours of Keeping up with the Kardashians would leave me feeling more stimulated.

Banana Soft Serve

Go ahead, take a bite.

I know you want to.

Smooth, creamy, and slightly sweet, this banana soft serve is a deliciously guilt-free treat.

With only three simple ingredient (one’s I can’t survive without always have on hand) you have no excuse not to try it.

Banana Soft Serve

serves 1

1 Medium banana, frozen

1/4 cup non-dairy milk (I used vanilla almond milk)

Splash of flavoring (optional, I used vanilla extract but coconut or peppermint would be delish too)

Directions

Add ingredients to blender or food processor. Blend until smooth or desired consistency is reached.

Top with decadent treats of your choice. ( I recommend sprinkles, chocolate shavings, or shredded coconut)

Grab a spoon and dig in!

32 Days

32 days until the 84th Annual Academy Awards and I couldn’t be more excited.

We are officially in the midst of another amazing awards season!

Which I like to use as an excellent excuse to get lost in the beauty of red carpet gowns,

the horror of ridiculous fashion faux pas (along with the harsh critiques from the FashionPolice),

the anticipation and excitement of opening each envelope,

the appreciation of the arts and talented artists,

and the glamourous celebrations that embody each and every awards show! (party ides @ Hostessblog and thoughtfullysimple)

In honor of the 84th Academy Awards, I am making it my goal to see all of the 9 films nominated for best picture this year before my 32 day countdown is up.

Nominated for best picture:

Hugo

Midnight in Paris

Moneyball

Tree of Life

War Horse

The Artist

The Descendents

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close

The Help

Now which movie will I start with…?

Celebrate National Peanut Butter Day!

Happy National Peanut Butter Day! I don’t know about you, but I couldn’t be happier about celebrating this little holiday. PB is pretty important in my life, so important that even the thought of being allergic to peanut butter sends chills down my spine.

Sometimes peanut butter gets a bad rep in the diet world because of its high fat content but truth be told all natural peanut butter (no added sugar, corn syrup, artificial flavoring etc.) is a great source of protein and can curb hunger for hours. Plus its freaking delicious.

So here I thought I’d share some amazingly delicious ways to celebrate this national holiday 🙂

Go buy this. It’s worthy every.single.penny.

And I HIGHLY recommend this last celebratory method:

Insert finger into PB jar. Insert PB covered finger into mouth. Close eyes and enjoy. (because calories don’t count in this type of situation)

Hope you had a peanut butter filled tuesday!

The Monday Blues: My top 5 remedies

Today was just one of those days, where an 8 hour workday left me feeling pretty blah. Kind of like this sad dark snow filled picture that just popped up in my files as an ironic reminder of my mood…

As I grumpily stormed into my apartment this evening I realized I was suffering from a bad case of the Monday Blues. Instead of falling into the trenches of self-pity  and bitterness towards my ridiculously obnoxious challenging day, I turned to my never fail top five remedies of the Monday Blues…

Starting with #5

Although this method requires more than one tool, I find it highly effective in a variety of emotional situations.

5. Soft Blanket + Comfy Couch + Best Friend. I mean seriously, how can you go wrong with these three things? I know they might seem basic, but sometimes simple is good. I find that when I’m in a bad mood, I isolate myself but what reallyme feel better is chatting/venting/laughing/with a really good friend. It’s an elementary mood lifter, but it works 🙂

4. Hot Beverage/Soup. For me, I turn to basic green tea or my mom’s chicken noodle soup. Sipping something warm comforts me in a way that lifts my spirits and comforts my body and soul.

3. Hilarious TV Sitcom marathon: Friends, The Office, or Modern Family. Because sometimes you just have to laugh it out.

2. Baking. There are so many things that I love about baking: the warmth of the oven, the smell of sugar that lingers on my clothes hours later, the anticipation of hearing the timer go off, and burning my tongue on the first baked good out of the oven (because I’m just to impatient to wait for anything to cool, I mean I worked hard why should I have to wait?) Ah, baking, it’s my happy place.

1. The Ultimate Mood Lifter: Exercise. More specifically spin class. Honestly, I’m not sure whether it’s the loud music, the perfuse sweating, or that jello-leg feeling you get after a great spin class, but with out fail I have left every single spin class feeling stronger, smellier, happier, and more energized. It’s just like Elle Woods says in Legally Blonde, “Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people don’t just kill their husbands.” You said it Elle! Exercise releases those amazing natural hormones we know as endorphins to lift our Monday Blues spirits!

And yes, I did just quote Elle Woods.

Here’s to a more beautiful day tomorrow:

Hope your Monday Moods are lifted and ready to conquer Tuesday! 🙂
